For early years settings and nurseries, supporting children who struggle to make expected progress within the EYFS Communication and Language framework can be challenging.
With a background as a Speech and Language Therapist Assistant (SLTA) and a qualified Level 3 Preschool Practitioner, Karen develops and delivers bespoke programmes that give children the tools to express themselves and interact with confidence.
Communication Connections
A focused programme designed to accelerate language development aligned with the EYFS:
- Theme-Based Learning: Each session is centred around an engaging theme extended over multiple weeks, using repetition to consolidate understanding.
- Listening & Vocabulary: Structured opportunities to practise active listening, expand spoken vocabulary, and acquire foundational concepts.
- Social Skills Through Play: Small group interactive games that teach turn-taking, peer interaction, and positive social communication.
Imagination Play Box
A weekly 30-minute immersive storytelling and dramatic play session:
- Children explore stories by pretending to be different characters and actively entering the world of the narrative.
- Structured segments include:
- Focused listening games
- Story sequencing and visual prompts
- Role play and emotional expression
- Opportunities to become a storyteller and actor
Inclusive SEN & EAL Approaches
Karen incorporates accredited methods into every class:
- Attention Autism (Bucket Therapy): Engaging, high-interest visual stages that build shared attention and focus.
- Makaton Signing: Pairing signs with clear speech to unlock comprehension for non-verbal children or those learning English.
- Level 1 Theraplay® & MIM: Enhancing attachment, engagement, self-esteem, and trust through playful, structured activities.
