Makaton is a unique, proven language programme that uses symbols, signs, and speech to enable people of all abilities to communicate effectively.
Karen Harvey is a qualified, licensed Makaton Tutor eligible to deliver official workshops, levels 1–8, and introductory taster sessions across Northamptonshire.
Why Makaton is Essential
Being able to communicate is one of the most fundamental skills in human life. Everyday tasks – asking for food, making friends, learning in the classroom, or solving disputes – rely on our ability to express ourselves and be understood.
- Signs with Speech: With Makaton, hand signs are used simultaneously with speech in spoken word order, giving essential visual clues about what is being said.
- Symbols: Symbols provide a visual bridge for individuals who cannot sign or prefer graphic communication.
- Core Skills Developed: Attention, listening, comprehension, memory recall, and language organization.

- Official Makaton Workshops (Stages 1–8): Comprehensive courses for nursery practitioners, teaching assistants, healthcare workers, and parents.
- Taster Sessions: Perfect for community organisations, playgroups, and schools wanting an introduction to everyday core signs.
- Makaton in Parties & Performances: Karen can also weave Makaton signing directly into birthday parties, story events, and sensory experiences so signing children feel celebrated and included!
